Martinique is the main island of the French Antilles and the most northerly of the Windward Islands.
Like France, Martinique has stylish food, stylish clothing and great pride in all things French. But it's also very much a part of the Caribbean, with its beautiful mountains, tangled rain forests, long beaches and African-influenced heritage.
Most yacht facilities around the capital Fort-de-France which is the largest city in the Windward Islands and has a distinctly European flavour.
A third of Martinique is forested and other areas are given over to pineapples, bananas and sugar cane fields.
You can also find fishing villages and remote beaches untouched by development.
In the north-west of the island you will find the famous volcano Mount Pelle.
