A captain, a lifetime at sea, and the very beginning of DYT
Some stories don’t start with a company. They start with people.
Captain Alberto Batani has spent his life at sea. Originally from French Polynesia, his journey through the yachting world began long before yacht transport became what it is today. When MV Super Servant and MY Dock Express first started transporting yachts between the United States and Europe, Alberto was already there.
In fact, he was one of the very first.
Alberto joined the service at the very beginning, with his first transport taking place in 1988. By 1989, he was on board as the second yacht ever to be carried on that route. A moment that would mark the start of a long relationship with what is now DYT Yacht Transport.
From sport fishing to global cruising
Alberto’s passion for the sea began with sport fishing. For nearly eight years, he worked as a sport fishing captain before moving into yacht deliveries, sailing boats between Florida and California. His path eventually led him to Europe in 1988, where his career continued to expand across oceans and continents.
As his experience grew, so did his appreciation for different cruising grounds around the world. For Alberto, the Mediterranean stands out for its diversity. Short distances can take you from one culture to another, from one cuisine to the next, each with its own identity and history.
Why French Polynesia is truly unique
While Alberto has sailed many regions, French Polynesia remains close to his heart. Spread across five archipelagos and more than 140 islands, the region offers exceptional biodiversity and vast cruising opportunities.
From French Polynesia, yachts can reach destinations such as the Cook Islands, Fiji, New Caledonia, Papua New Guinea, and New Zealand within manageable distances. This accessibility has made the region increasingly attractive to yacht owners, with vessels ranging from 30 to 50 meters now regularly exploring the area.
For Alberto, this is where yacht transport plays a vital role. Transport makes these remote and spectacular cruising grounds achievable without long and demanding ocean passages.
A changing industry, the same passion
According to Alberto, the yachting industry continues to evolve rapidly. Regulations change, expectations rise, and operations become more complex. But some things remain constant.
To succeed as a superyacht captain, passion for the sea is essential. You need to love the ocean, respect it, and have what Alberto calls “a few drops of saltwater in your veins.”
It’s this passion that connects generations of captains, owners, and transport specialists alike.
A story that mirrors the evolution of yacht transport
Alberto’s journey reflects the evolution of DYT itself. From the earliest transport voyages to today’s global operations, the goal has remained the same: enabling yachts to explore more of the world, safely and efficiently.
